Background

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) was established by the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Act No. 19 of 1995, and empowered to ensure nuclear safety, security and safeguards and to ensure the protection of life, health, property and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation, while allowing beneficial practices involving exposure to ionizing radiation.

1. Eradicate Smuggling

  1. Reactivate Customs X-Ray scanners and install Radiation Portal Monitors (RPM) at all Border posts to check illicit trafficking.

2. Gas Flare Commercialization

  1. Engage stakeholders on roadmap for implementation of key priorities.

3. Increase Crude Oil Production

  1. Improve regulatory environment by streamlining authorization and licensing process.
  2. Improve Security of Nuclear and radioactive materials used in Oil drilling and Production operations.
  3. Support R & D on Oil recovery using Nuclear techniques.

4. Reduce Crude Oil Extraction Cost

  1. Improve capabilities in cost engineering.
  2. Optimize the OPMT.
  3. Review sanctioning policy and procedure.
  4. Minimize Single Sourcing Syndrome.
  5. Review sanctioning policy and procedure.

8 & 9. Increase Jobs And Reduce Poverty

  1. Strengthen engagement with relevant stakeholders.
  2. Ensure all Oil and Gas training are industry driven
  3. Vigorously develop training programmes and skill acquisition in the use of Nuclear Technology for youth and monitor compliance.


Short Term
